COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students with an interest in German language as well as in formal film analysis. Twenty-first century German films that deal with the Second World War, the division of Germany, and with issues in contemporary German culture are used as a springboard for discussions, for written work, and for the development of students’ written and spoken language skills.

PREREQUISITES: High Intermediate skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

TEACHING METHOD: Discussion format with active student participation

EVALUATION METHOD: Evaluation will be based on class participation and performance, short weekly writings, medium-length thematic essays.

READING: Readings will be available via Blackboard Site
